Course Policies

Required Materials

Text:  Physics (Seventh Edition)
 Cutnell & Johnson

Scientific Calculator        
3.5” High Density Diskette (IBM format) or jump drive


Attendance:

The maximum allowable number of absences is two.  Each absence in excess of two will result in a one-point reduction in your final grade.  It is therefore extremely important that you sign in on the attendance sheet each class.  This is your responsibility, not your instructors!.


Homework:

Homework will be assigned and randomly collected.  Homework that is collected will count as a quiz grade. Late homework will not be accepted.  It is imperative that you do the homework to derive the maximum benefit from this course.

Quizzes:

The quizzes will generally be held at the beginning of the lab period, although a quiz may be given at any time.  Quizzes will generally be patterned after the homework problems or class examples.

Labs:

Lab reports will be due one lab after the experiment has been performed unless otherwise specified.  The format of the reports will be covered separately.  Late labs will not be accepted.

Exams:

There will be three or four written exams and a cumulative final exam.  No make‑up exams will be given.  Since the topic material gets more difficult as the semester progresses you would be wise not to miss an exam!



Grading:

The following grading format will be used:
Quizzes 15%
Labs 20%
Exams 50%
Final Exam 15%

Withdrawal:

The last date for an automatic withdrawal is 3 November, 2008.  After that date, you must obtain my signature on a drop/add form to withdraw from this course.  If you just stop coming to class you will receive an F for your final grade!

Cheating:

Cheating will not be tolerated.  Cheating constitutes grounds for immediate failure of this course! Students cheating will be referred to the Dean of Students for disciplinary action.

Cell Phones and Beepers:

Cell phones and beepers have become an increasing distraction in the classroom.  Cell phones and beepers must be turned off, put in vibrate mode or put in silent mode.
